Madelene is our first and newest female coati. She had been found in the town of San Andres de Potrero Grande in Buenos Aires de Puntarenas on July 14th and brought to a Rescue Center Clinic run by Mr. Augustin Salazar Corrales. She was very thin at the time weighing only 353 grams. She was checked by their veterinarians and they found her poor ears and eyes were covered in mites. They treated her with various medicines and sprays and bathed her accordingly. She then started a diet of goat milk which was later decreased in lieu of solid fruits like mango, watermelon, pineapple, and vegetables like broccoli, green beans, and carrots. She stayed in the maternity section of their hospital where she was fed twice daily and temporarily isolated from other animals. She was transferred to Rescue Center Costa Rica in December 2020. At the time of transfer, she had normal hydration but there was a small skin ulcer on the tip of her tail. She was named this week Madelene after one of our previous volunteers who has gone out of her way to show kindness and hard work when she was here last year as well as when she traveled back home. The new enclosure for Madelene has been designed and is currently in the process of being built. We can't wait for her to see it for the first time!

Please consider sponsoring Madelene to secure his/her food, medicine, and love!
