Sponsor Kayu for as little as $1 a month for 12 months and ensure that he/she receives a nutritious diet, necessary medical care, and all the love and attention needed to live a secure and happy life over the next year. Make a difference for as little as $1 a month. Say hi to Kayu (french pronunciation 'Caillou'). He was received at Rescue Center Costa Rica on June 1st, 2021 by a Costa Rican local who had the kinkajous as a home pet. She named him after a television series that aired in the late '90s and was based on a 4-year-old boy who is fascinated by the world around him.
Thankfully, she realized animals like kinkajous are not pets, they are illegal to keep and need special care. She contacted us and delivered the animal to the vet team where we discovered Kayu suffers from a metabolic deficiency.
Kayu now has a correct diet and since he is less than 1 year old remains in the Senis Baby Animal Hospital at Rescue Center Costa Rica.
Unfortunately, as a result of his condition, he is non-releasable. He will not be able to climb trees and does not walk properly. However, after spending some time in the hospital he will be moved to our kinkajous' enclosure and will live a healthy and happy life with proper medical care and plenty of food. Hopefully, he will also have many more friends in the near future.
